Women Designers: Tracy Glover Gets Celestial with Rondel Sconce & Constellation Chandelier
We weren’t going to let Women’s History Month go by without paying tribute to some of our favorite women designers—including glassblower Tracy Glover.
Rondel Sconce is a sconce that gets everything right—perfect shape, perfect translucency, perfect light diffusion. It recalls the delightful discs of quotidian life—buttons and cookies, coins and clocks. The Wrap pattern softens Rondel Sconce’s light, its concentric lines tempering the light source.
In Persimmon, Rondel Sconce is sweet as candy. Gold and Aurora recall the setting sun. And writers will appreciate Rondel Sconce in Clear with a Black Oxide backplate, reminiscent of punctuation.
Constellation Chandelier incorporates the same Rondels on a sputnik-inspired form with robot-like arms. Glover was actually thinking of astronomer’s charts when she devised this chandelier that “will light up your night sky.”
Available in multiple sizes, Constellation Chandelier is also customizable. Choose the number of rondels. Choose their size, finish, and color. The five-arm version with Wrap pattern gets the starry shape just right, putting me in mind of Canis Major.
Tracy Glover Studio combines traditional Italian techniques with modern jewel-like forms. With a BFA in glassmaking from RISD and further study in Belgium and at Dale Chihuly’s Pilchuck School, Glover creates every piece handblown to order.
For another favorite, feast your eyes on Glover’s Lucia Chandelier.
