Designers are combining the traditional industrial cage lamp  with new materials, colors and finishes to create contemporary lighting fixtures.

Inspired by and named after the Tennessee town, Bluff City, Jonah Takagi’s industrial but refined Bluff City pendants for Roll & Hill combine a traditional pendant shade with a wire cage.

Tommaso Caldera’s Tull lamp for Milanese brand Incipit is merges a domestic shade with a industrial cage lamp. The designer has simply altered the colors, finishes and proportions to give the design a contemporary feel.

Designed by by Jake Phipps for Italian brand Casamania, Tweetie is a playful bird and cage-inspired pendant lamp that has been made in collaboration with the ceramic experts at BOSA. While the birds are made from hand-painted black or 24 carat gold-plated ceramic, the frame is made from black-painted or gold-plated metal rods.
