Love You Love You Not Chandelier
There is something in the air in the Netherlands, and it’s not what you think. It’s a feeling of extravagance and playfulness, a bringing together of seemingly disparate elements. We’ve seen this in quite a few pieces at 3rings, including Maarten De Ceulaer's Pile of Suitcases, Artifort’s Globus, and Tejo Remy and Rene VeenHuizen's Tennis Ball Furniture.
Today’s Dutch installment is literally in the air: the Love you Love you not Chandelier by design team Annet van Egmond and William Brand. It
certainly makes sense that this provocative chandelier comes from two minds, since (as you may have guessed given the contradictory name) the Love you Love you not Chandelier emits dualism in excess: male/female, dark/bright, random/precise. The chandelier comes in a larger, round shape called the LYC100 and a conical shape, the LYC70. Both are made of steel, decorated with Swarovski crystal, and come in black, white, and nickel finishes.

Should you enjoy Bravo’s Top Design show, then you already know that last week’s episode hinged on Swarovski, as each designer was asked to design a room around one chandelier gleaming with Swarovski crystals. I’m guessing that designers Brand and van Egmond would have favored Nathan’s fantastic, if not downright chimerical, spoiled child’s room complete with a wooden horse sculpture and Karim Rashid chess set. In fact, van Egmond describes some of her inspiration in youthful terms: “I am the child that, by smelling the perfume bottle, dreams of places like New York, Paris, and Rome.”
Nathan’s room also proves that there’s a thin line between love and hate, which is something the Love you Love you not Chandelier capitalizes on. The design pair states that their chandelier is “an explosion of laughter, a shower of tears.” It’s also a fickle piece with “curvy petals strung together in a stray fashion”; but don’t take that impetuousness for granted, since “just when you thought you had it figured out, there is laser-cut in the tail.” The Love you Love you not Chandelier is part Morticia Addams and part Samantha Stephens–a little dangerous and a little innocent. Her identity shifts, which means, of course, that while you can never quite pin her down, you can’t get bored of her either.
