Storage Sofas: Contract Trend
At recent trade shows, we’ve spotted a variety of sofa designs that offer more than just a comfortable seat. These multitasking designs incorporate clever shelving, hidden storage compartments and even power outlets for charging laptops and mobile devices.
Launched last year, Philippe Starck’s My World sofa for Cassina features an optional storage box module that can be placed beside the arm of the sofa. The box is available in three variations: one simple version with a pull-out tray, and two high tech versions, one with an electrical charging station and USB charger, and one with a Duracell Powermat wireless charging station.
Presented at imm Cologne earlier this year, Brühl’s Deep Space sofa features fully extendable/adjustable seats and backrests as well as a wooden storage table whose removable lid can be used a tray.
Visually light but sumptuously comfortable, the new GranTorino sofa by Jean Marie Massaud for Poltrona Frau is equipped with an intricately upholstered, hand cut leather trunk that doubles as an armrest. Inside the trunk you’ll find an ecru fabric interior and an elegant, natural oak tray.
The cherry wood frame of the Giò sofa bed by Morelato incorporates a handy book shelf.
The inventive Bibik sofa by Renata Kalarus has an upholstered, looped frame that provides space for storing away books and other living room clutter.
