Dainty and Danish: The Norr Light by Christina Liljenberg Halstrøm for Arturo Alvarez
For the first time ever, the lighting company of Arturo Alvarez displayed their latest lighting fixtures at the Stockholm Furniture & Northern Light Fair which took place mid-February. A notable favorite to rest on a sleek desk design or hang above a high quality Scandinavian breakfast table was the wooly little Norr table lamp (NR03) and the Norr suspension lamp (NR04) designed by Christina Liljenberg Halstrøm.

Wooly Lampshades of Diminutive Stature in Table and Pendant Lighting Form
As an all-around European relay of Danish designer meets Spanish manufacturer and shows at the Swedish furniture fair, we’re happy to see the tiny little Norr cross the finish. Its perfectly tailored shade comes with tiny little zippers and is made of wool, gently draping down in a graceful A-line mold. In the table lamp version of Norr, designer Liljenberg Halstrøm uses a burly, thin wool fabric and matching slim base made of lightly-stained wood. While there is no explanation for the peg in the lamp’s description, I can envision plenty of practical and very minimalist-unfriendly uses for a simple hook, like hanging necklaces and bracelets or a gaudy ornament during the holiday season.
From the looks of the Norr pendant light, Liljenberg Halstrøm has kept the curved shade structure the same. Even the tiny little zippers remain intact. The coloring, however, shows off the range of dyed wools – dark gray, light gray, blue, or green – that are available for each lamp. The Norr pendant lamp hangs from a simple, transparent cable that uses a cylindrical piece of wood to transition from wooly shade to durable cord which matches the tiny peg that sticks out of the Norr table lamp.
Enchanting and wintery, the wood and wool Norr lamps by Christina Liljenberg Halstrøm for Arturo Alvarez have a polite but outgoing presence with their charm and dark, diffusing lampshade of zippered up wool.
