Reinventing the Shell: The HAL Tube Chair by Jasper Morrison for Vitra
Since Charles and Ray Eames seem to have simply wet our palettes with their original shell chair, designer Jasper Morrison comes in now – nearly six decades later – to quench our thirst for under-stated modern seating. Using his interpretation of the shell as if it were the “Helvetica New” typeface of the original, we gladly welcome the HAL Tube Chair to the Vitra line-up as understated beauty trapped in an eager to please seat.

The HAL Tube Chair by Jasper Morrison Draws Inspiration from the Charles and Ray Eames Legacy for a Modern-Day Vitra
To combine the old and new, the ergonomic, molded back and seat takes on a slightly different shape. Offered in partnership with more than ten different bases to complete the ultimate HAL look, it’s also offered in a multiple colors that work themselves into any home, office or public space. Since HAL takes full advantage of Vitra’s testing lab – which simulates approximately 15 years of use – the slim profile is built to last. All of its surfaces and parts are fused without leaving crevices for dirt and grime to collect just like the original version besides its GREENGUARD environmental label which benefits your project’s LEED building certification. To top it off, the construction of the chair can be funneled into either indoor or outdoor use. Since so many different options are available, Vitra recommends the powder-coated steel base in crème for a light interior addition or the basic dark finish for resilient outdoor use as patio dining chairs under the sun and stars.
Speaking of tables, the London-born Morrison took his HAL Collection a step further by matching the chair to its very own HAL Table. Developed at the same time as an addition to the line-up for Vitra, the HAL Table comes in a round or square tabletop that is available in white, pastel grey or black. Opt to match the molded polypropylene shell of the chair to its tabletop surface or go for a warm, contrasting orange with armrests or a steel sleigh base to mix things up.
Dynamic in shape and texture, the HAL Tube Chair by Jasper Morrison is a 40s-inspired furnishing any mid-century loving, 21st century space simply cannot do without.
