It seems that subway tile will forever be popular. With its classic (yet versatile) aesthetic and affordable price-point, why would it not be? Named after the tile originally installed in the New York subway, the rectangular tile has since been updated in various materials and colors. California-based Modwalls manufactures and sells a wide-array of glass and stainless steel subway tile, and will soon be expanding their selection to include ceramic and cork subway tiles.

Modwalls Lush® glass subway tile is 8mm thick, with clean, contemporary straight edges (as opposed to the more standard beveled). Colors range from Wasabi and Cobalt to Almond, Dune and Taupe. Many are available in both standard (glossy) and frosted.  Horizontal or vertically oriented, they can create a wide range of affects.  The tile is offered in a standard large size: 3” x 6” as well as three skinny and mini sizes: 1” x 2” , 1” x 4” and ½” x 2”. ModMetals™ stainless steel subways are available in 20mm x 40mm offset joint, and 15mm x 100mm straight joint sizes.

For the eco-conscious, Modwalls has a selection of Eco-Friendly options that include ModRocks™ Natural Polished Pebble Mosaics, ModRocks™ 100% Recycled Glass Pebbles, and all Natural Cork Mosaic Penny Rounds made of end cuts from a wine cork manufacturer. All are mesh mounted in square foot sheets or larger for easy modular installation. Newer to their collection is the Viridian™ recycled glass mosaic tile, made of 98% recycled glass and seen in the showers of the 2008 West Coast Green “Harbinger House”, designed by ecofabulous. These tiles were derived from reclaimed glass building windows and manufacturing pieces from windows and windshields.  New for 2009 are Mini Pebbles. For indoors or outdoors, walls, showers, backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, walkways, pools and spas. The aesthetic is decidedly modern, the selection very colorful and the tiles are kept in stock for immediate delivery. So, when you have the urge to renovate – no wait necessary.
