Live at #IIDEX09: Arconas’s Bernù Ice
Ice, ice, baby. Arcona’s new seating solution, Bernù, featuring seats of textured, cast resin, brings to mind a ice hockey and figure skating. Fitting given its debut in Canada at #IIDEX 2009. A leading manufacturer in seating design and engineering, Arconas teamed up with Joel Berman Glass Studios to develop the system, whose sleek, aeronautical shape and innovative peg construction system were designed by Canadian Industrial Designer, Davide Tonizzo.

“Collaborating with Arconas allowed us to jointly explore materials and continue our ideas around accessiility of design for the public,” explains Joel Berman, founder and president of Joel Berman Glass Studios. The ½ inch thick translucent resin is cast in Berman’s Valencia texture, further enforcing its resemblance to glass.
Also being introduced at #IIDEX 2009 is Molecule, Arconas’ Infinite Furniture System for the contract seating industry. It consists of two components: a cylindrical upholstered seat and a curved backrest finished in wood veneer with upholstered top pad. “A simple set of elements that can produce a vast range of configurations,” describes its designer Davide Tonizzo, Molecule can respond to changing needs or change the look of a space through simple and rapid (re)assembly.
