A Tribute to Star Wars: AT-AT Walker by Lifegoods

Simultaneously cool and (a little) creepy, Lifegoods‘ AT-AT Walker is a tribute to Star Wars, ‘inspired by the “walking vehicle” of “The Empire Strikes Back” Star Wars episode V.’ For non-aficionados, walkers are the fictional vehicles from the Star-Wars universe that transverse the landscape on mechanical legs. AT-AT is a specific variant, an All Terrain Armored Transport “used by the Old Republic and the Galactic Empire for ground assault or transport” (thanks Wikipedia).

AT-AT Walker. Designed by Lifegoods.

Large and four-legged, the sci-fi inspired wooden lamp reinterprets the Galactic Empire’s dog-like robotic killer into a tall, slick and sophisticated design object (a precious lamp) defined by its tall legs and glowing drawer. Showcased at the [D3] Design Talents show at IMM Cologne, AT-AT Walker could be mistaken for a very tall nightstand, but its ‘drawer’ reveals a light when pulled out. The drawer functions as a dimmable sliding light: becoming brighter as it opens and lacking light when closed.  AT-AT Walker was designed by Swiss product design consultancy Lifegoods for Ormond Editions of Geneva, the contemporary design gallery through which Richard Hutton’s Cloud Chair was also produced. Whether you’re a Star Wars devotee or ignoramus, you ought to appreciate this cool piece.
