Yarn Unveiled by Sylvie Johnson for Merida Studio

Merida Studio recently released Yarn Unveiled, its seventh limited-edition collection of the Atelier series. Created by artist-in-residence Sylvie Johnson, the area rugs illustrate Johnson’s belief “that yarn possesses a life of its own, with every fiber telling a unique story.”

All of the thirty pieces in the collection are on display at the Merida Gallery in New York City from October 25, 2024 – March 14, 2025, where visitors can experience yarn as textural art. As Johnson notes, “Yarn is not merely a medium but a language—an alphabet that forms the basis of expression.”

Edifice

Edifice juxtaposes the ancient art of embroidery with the lines of Modernist architecture. Constructed of mohair, linen, alpaca merino, cotton, and thin-felted wool, Edifice brings natural materials underfoot where they can be enjoyed through all the senses.

Carve

Carve features an ornamental geometric border that puts me in mind of castle crenellations. Its two textures and colors celebrate the subtleties of the medium.

Glaze

Shaped like an oblong octagon, Glaze showcases varieties of wool, including silk, twisted, and crimped wool. In Ivy, Glaze is jewel-like.
