Hip and Whimsical: Kids Rugs by Momeni

New Jersey-based carpet company Momeni offers playful rugs designed for children of all ages. Their Lil Mo Collections, which include Lil Mo Hipster and Lil Mo Whimsy, present patterns for both very young kids and older teens (who, let's face it, are often hard to please). Their compositions are interesting, their subjects are fanciful, and their colors are vibrant-and, most importantly, their collections manage to accomplish all this without relying on the staid motifs of most children's rugs.

Thankfully, Momeni's kids rugs do not ignore the needs and desires of boys, and offer some unusual rug options (as opposed to those familiar fire trucks and boring bulldozers). For example, in the Lil Mo Whimsy Collection, Robot and Arcade offer fun alternatives to the male standards. Robot pictures androids and rocket ships in an interesting composition: the robots and machines face all directions, something that echoes the very act of space travel. Arcade reinterprets classic video games like Pac Man and Galaga, with its yellow dots and colorful icons. Of course, both of these kids rugs will also appeal to girls who have visions of otherworldly voyaging and escapist games.

For more traditional members of the fairer sex, Momeni has designed rugs with "sugar and spice and everything nice," such as the blossoming Floating Flowers and herbaceous Swirl. Floating Flowers shows "richly hued flower-like shapes" dancing diagonally across a solid background. Momeni explains its intended audience as "certain young people with a fantastical sense of style." For younger children, or those with an environmental bent, Swirl pictures stylized organic swirls-perhaps representing "fiddlehead ferns or magical flowers"-on which red ladybugs crawl and romp.

Momeni has rugs intended for that most difficult age group as well-tweens and teens. Take their Superstar rug, for instance, which should appeal to their egocentricity. The carpet's "flashing-star design in cool shades running from deep, rich magenta to cool blue-gray" is fittingly part of the company's Lil Mo Hipster Collection. Whatever the child's gender or age, Momeni's kids rugs present fabulous, stylish possibilities.
