Ergonomics expert Humanscale is presenting Smart Ocean at NeoCon 2019, a sustainable chair made in collaboration with Bureo, a startup developing innovative solutions to prevent ocean plastic pollution.
Every Smart Ocean Chair incorporates almost 2 pounds of recycled fishing net material sourced from Net Positiva, “a collection and recycling program aimed at combating the detrimental effects of discarded ocean fishing nets,” explains Humanscale.
The nets are converted into recycled nylon pellets that serve as the raw material for the chair. Like Humanscale’s Diffrient Chair, Smart Ocean is an intuitive task chair with Form-Sensing Mesh Technology. The chair moves with all users, instantly adjusting to their bodies—no adjustments needed.
Smart Ocean is the first tangible product developed by Humanscale and Bureo, who are co-founders of Next Wave, a task force dedicated to turning ocean trash into smart materials. View Smart Ocean in Suite 351 or get more information at Humanscale.
