Forget creating one piece of educational furniture, Rosan Bosch Ltd. went to no end in creating an immaculate fantasy world that is finished as a complete piece of interior architecture with his Vittra Telefonplan in Stockholm, Sweden. Although appealing to people of all ages, its fun dimensions and larger-than-life custom seating structures are made especially for children to learn without walls that traditionally separate their classes into rows of desks and chairs.

A Sitting Island, Checkerboard Floor and Mountain Make up the Open Plan of the Vittra Telefonplan “Classroom” by Rosan Bosch Ltd.

“The interior takes it point of departure in Vittra's pedagogical principles and serves as a pedagogical tool for development in the everyday of the school,” describes Bosch of the Vittra Telefonplan as it matches the principles of the Swedish Free School Organization, Vittra. “Instead of classical divisions with chairs and tables, a giant iceberg for example serves as cinema, platform and room for relaxation, and sets the frame for many different types of learning.” Using scarlet red, lime green, clean white, and other areas with contrasting colors for a bold effect, the educational furniture and surroundings come in dashing shades that inspire creativity.

The school consist of many different pieces of custom-designed educational furniture and structures. For starters, take a look at the  modern curves that wrap around the bright green sitting island, the climbable central thoroughfare atop the glacier blue mountain, and even the “Lunch Club” tables and chairs that serve as an eating area-turned-study hall with a fun checkerboard floor. The look of the entire Vittra Telefonplan space is that of a fun learning environment that uses large-scale furnishings to divide it up without losing its sense of open air.

As Bosch says of his educational interior design for Vittra, "the differentiated spaces allow the children to learn on their own terms, creating different types of learning scenarios. In that way, the design lets the school unfold its potential."
