The Simple Form of a Walnut Side Table by Volk Furniture Trumps the Competition
Appearing at the 23rd Annual ICFF recently, Volk Furniture was located within the Brooklyn Designs booth. Although smaller than other furnishings and clearly not super flashy, there was something special about their side table design.
Using a solid walnut wood with a splayed leg stand beneath its single, drawer, the side table evokes the feeling of sweet simplicity. It was designed to use a vintage pump organ drawer pull and the interior of the drawer showcases its fabric lining in poplar shirting fabric or ultrasuede. Finished off with a bit of oil and wax for the ideal effect and feel, the Volk design of a side table is nothing short of perfection.
Although it can come in custom sizes as well, the standard small Walnut Side Table comes in a size of 17.25“H x 10.25“W x 10.25“D. Using the hand-selected materials to draw out the ultimate beauty of the solid wood, Volk Furniture nailed our desire to see high quality and the magic of vintage tied into the modern feel of clean lines.
About the Manufacturer: Volk Furniture is a Brooklyn-based company dedicated to the design and fabrication of handcrafted, traditionally joined and finished wood furniture. Owner, designer and builder, Brian Volk-Zimmerman (BFA, Rhode Island School of Design) is a painter and musician who began making furniture in 2006 in a Brooklyn Navy Yard shop. It all began when he found a simply-constructed wooden side chair in the attic of the family farmhouse in which he grew up. The chair was one of many in the house made by a great-great-great uncle, John Volk, a furniture maker of local renown in the early 19th Century. The promise of Volk Furniture is that future generations will treasure the simplicity, care and craft embodied in each piece.
