Touch of Light by Karim Rashid & Gorenje
is known as much for color as he is for organic shapes: blob-like curves and splotches that take on the contours of ink blots and spilled milk. He has designed an orbiculate suite of indoor/outdoor furniture called Extraordinary Family, and a globose lounge chair entitled Blobulous. Wherever you expect a hard line or a straight edge, Rashid subverts the form–especially in everyday objects. He has done it again with The Touch of Light, his new collection of kitchen appliances for Gorenje.

When asked about his process, Rashid said: “I have wanted to design appliances for ages. It was a great exercise in rethinking the banal.” His results in the kitchen are just as colorful and quirky as they have been in every other room, melding sleek modernism with Jetsons futurism.
The cooktop breaks the expected squares by featuring amoeba-like curves that dance around the four burners in undulating stripes. The round burners and X-shaped supports also deny the rectangle at every turn. Gorenje explains the beauty of Rashid’s design: “The graphic details continue across the stovetop wherein functionality and decoration find a seamless synergy.” Equipped with an LED surface, The Touch of Light cooktop also provides some added color to your cooking. You can set the color to match your mood–and, if this translates into your cooking, you might end up experiencing emotion with every bite. The Touch of Light Cooktop is a wonderful canvas for food and chromotherapy: its resplendent white glass sets off a mood dramatically.
