Italian lighting manufacturer Foscarini is perpetually on our radar. Their collaboration with Diesel for last year’s Salone del Mobile brought about the Cage series and the Fork Lamp. The Tress Lamp, designed by Marc Sadler, was similarly the subject of much press attention. This year during Milan Design Week, which begins in a mere two days, Foscarini will officially introduce a new suspension lamp designed by Luca Nichetto.

Tröag is the Swedish word for a canoe-shaped wooden bowl used for crushing fruit or letting bread rise. While I didn’t even know that product existed, let alone inspired a lamp, the result is rather impressive. Fabricated from a single piece of wood, with a slit that runs along the top of the shade, light is diffused both downwards and upwards. “During a trip to Lapland, Luca Nichetto was introduced to this object, which is passed on from generation to generation and it has provided the source of inspiration for a longitudinal suspension lamp designed to illuminate work areas like long tables or large open spaces.”

Tröag is available in three different versions of varying lengths, and is best suited for long tables and large open spaces as a result of its decidedly linear nature.
