Ode to Organization: Binny by OFS

If you’re of a certain age, you might mourn the death of the library card catalog. With its many drawers and rectangular cases, the card catalog still captures the imagination—making us wonder what secrets are hidden away within those clever compartments. The twenty-first-century version of the card catalog may very well be here in the form of Binny. Created by OFS, Binny is a unique storage system that organizes the many items you might need at work.

Designed by Webb Associates, Binny works for virtually everything. The wide and tall boxes accommodate daily work objects like paperclips and file folders, as well as personal items such as hand lotion and that book you can’t put down. Molded PET storage units hide whatever you’re stashing away, and optional lids make Binny private.

Leather pull straps and rivets dress up the Binny bins, giving them a dapper touch. Get your own Binny with an under-desk mount so you can secret away all the little tools of the trade. Use a desk Binny as a Pending Box. Optional nameplates, accessory trays, dividers, and lids make Binny infinitely customizable.

Bins come in Charcoal, Tan, and Steel Blue with straps in Chocolate, Carbon, or Natural. Rivets (and who doesn’t love rivets?) are Black or Brass. Of course, my favorite part of the Binny system is the cases that stack and organize all the Binny bins (OFS calls them Totes). The sixteen-Tote Binny with wide boxes recalls the shape of those olden card catalogs I love so much. The privacy panels turn Binny into a personal nook to collect your thoughts while you collect your things. The coordinating Heya storage provides the perfect partner for Binny.

Binny is designed for workspaces, but it looks good enough for residential and hospitality uses. Personally, I’d love a 16-tote Binny for my foyer, which has no closet. The surface provides the perfect spot to drop keys and bags—and the Binny Totes can hold the oh-so-many things we need to grab on the way in or out: shoes, purses, leashes, eyeglasses, and whatnots.

Anyone with kids will covet Binny too! If only I had a Binny to tame my kid’s collection habit (we’ve been through stores of stones, lots of Legos, batches of beads, assemblies of animals, and fancies of feathers). An entire wall of Binny would work well in Montessori classrooms. Imagine small Binnies as nightstands in compact hotel rooms or expansive Binnies as displays in retail stores. Every time you slide out a Binny Tote, you get the satisfaction of touch and agency while also enjoying the anticipation of discovery.
