Victoria Hughes’ Textiles
Textile designer and Glasgow School of Art Design School student Victoria Hughes is the Designer’s Guild Textile Designer of the Year for her project Cut and Paste.
Inspired by the geometric forms of Brutalist architecture, Hughes aspires towards transforming these common shapes via the creative interplay of collage and vibrant colors.
Her cut-and-paste-technique designs offer a vivid and varied counterpoint for many European cityscapes, “injecting some brightness into the grey and concrete world seen in my primary research.”
Hughes envisions public transport as a primary application for her designs. She also emphasizes the importance of being a steward to the environment, adding, “Keeping sustainability in mind, I have used only donated yarns throughout my final year.”
