Zanotta’s Oliva Chair Offers Sculptural Harmony
There’s definitely a sense of sea life in Zanotta’s Oliva chair by designer Constance Guisset.
From the front, it looks like a bi-valve, seat and back resembling the twin shells of a yawning clam.
Viewed from the side, however, Oliva has a crustacean aspect. The chair’s innovative design features a continuous front leg that literally pierces the cushion to join the back legs in a geometrical V.
In creating Oliva, designer Guisset wanted to highlight the interplay between the streamlined legs and curvaceous seat and back: “The sculptural ensemble dances on the delicacy of the legs.”
Oliva is made of solid maple lacquered in black or ash gray. Seat and back are polyurethane foam around a steel frame. Many upholstery options are available.
