Laia Chair by Alki
The Laia Chair by French company Alki combines simple forms and natural materials. These characteristics make it a great piece for healthcare environments, where organic elements are often missing.
Designed by Jean Louis Iratzoki, Alki features a simple A frame and curved seat. The oak comes natural or stained, while the seat can be finished in felt, wool, leather, or other fabrics-but the back of the chair is always covered in felt.
The natural wood and soft curves of Laia may help patients feel more relaxed. The chair is also "produced in line with ecological criteria, from the perspectives of the processes as well as of the materials."
Recently, Laia Chairs were installed in the waiting area of Emardental Clinic in Spain, a private dental office that sought to put patients at ease with natural materials-and the effect is serene indeed.
