Kitchen in the Sky
Antonio Citterio, Patricia Viel, and Arclinea harness their collective imaginations for impeccable kitchens that channel a Miami vibe at 1428 Brickell.

A 70-story tower housing 189 luxury residences, 1428 Brickell boasts the rare feat of a high-rise residential unit powered partly by the sun.

The clean energy is an impressive credential for sure, but perhaps not as jaw-dropping as meeting the technical challenge of manufacturing and installing 189 Italian-style kitchens, an achievement that, according to Viel, could only have been accomplished by Arclinea.

Residences in the tower are equipped with one of two basic configurations: the L-shaped Convivium model with kitchen island and Era Table (above) or the airier, more compact iteration with Era Snack Bar (below).

Both offer the same palette of premium materials: custom Oak doors, Pietra marble worktops, backsplashes in Travertino Romano Classico, and hood shelf, suspended, shelf, and faucets in PVD.

Arguably, the notion that “the kitchen is the heart of the home” has become cliché, but Viel provides a refreshingly old-world take on the notion: “We are exporting what we call the European and Italian way of life in all our projects… the capability of the kitchen to be the core of conviviality.”

For those who have never been to the Southern tip of our 48, “core of conviviality” sums it up nicely. Miami kitchens and the immediate spaces around them are bonafide hubs for regional traditions. A short list would include overwrought gesticulations at the habitually poor performances of Dolphins quarterbacks, mass muddling of sugar and mint for multiple mojitos, impromptu Salsa sallies, and incessant spatterings of oil—for tostones, ropa vieja, camarones enchilados…

If it seems to you like I’ve slipped into Greek here, then you really should visit Miami. But the important point to make is that—in spite of all the buying, storing, slicing, chopping, cooking, serving, and enthusiastic consuming that happens therein (and it always involves garlic, lots and lots of garlic)—the quintessential Miami kitchen is clean, exquisitely so.

With its sharp lines, earthy palette, impeccable organization, and quality materials, Arclinea’s 1428 Brickell kitchens meet the Miami missive. It’s the kitchen that looks impossibly neat and sparkling clean, notwithstanding the great, big, joyous mess of humanity that gathers there on the regular.
