The past couple of summers I’ve grown dahlias in our backyard garden. I buy the tubers at our farmers market choosing the colors I think are the prettiest based on the laminated photos they have above the corresponding tubers in their soily black crates.

The joy of planting something that looks like a bunch of small pointy potatoes who are insistent on staying best friends and following their flourish from shoots to leaves to flower is simply life-affirming. Sometimes I even forget which color I bought, and so I wait all season to experience the exhilarating mystery of its chromatic debut.

Immediately when I saw the Ruff High Pouf in Purple from GAN’s Ruff Pouf series it reminded me of the intricate spaces of a dahlia bloom.

Beyond my imagined floral inspiration, the thick felted fabric here is actually designed to replicate Elizabethan collars, otherwise known as the “E-collar” for our pets. Cats and dogs might actually enjoy the dignified style of these a little more…

The pouf is available in three colors: gray and purple, gray-beige, or entirely in gray.

Try this High Pouf as a low seat in a living room or as a sit-stool in a dressing room. (I can imagine a ballerina in full costume and makeup putting on her pointe shoes here.)

Iterations as a footstool or a side table also seem apropos.
