Creatures of the Night by ZAK+FOX
National Cat Day is upon us. To all who celebrate, Creatures of the Night from New York-based textile company ZAK+FOX is an autumnal wallpaper encapsulating Halloween’s spooky season and those feral feline stares from a collective of cats at the edge of the wood.
In our experience, not many interior design wallpapers are accompanied by a poem, but this one is.
Creatures of the Night
Strange creatures of the night
Trapped in midnight’s tapestry
The moon dares not to shine
For fear of what it may reveal.
Do not let the silence fool you
For they whisper names in hushed tones
Tracking every step
And every breath
With glinting eyes like knives
On tender necks.
Are they hiding?
Or are they hunting?
I am lost in the darkness
Losing myself to fear
To my own imagination
Or perhaps to something more sinister?
(For all we know, these might not be cats, but that’s where our flight-of-fancy imagination takes us.)
Creatures of the Night is available in five spine-tingling colorways. It’s printed on nonwoven paper and runs 11 yards in length.
Creative Director Zak Profera studied conceptual art at the San Francisco Art Institute. He founded ZAK+FOX in 2012.
He’s always believed the greatest ideas come from the most unlikely places. As mentioned in the ZAK+FOX business ethos, “It is the lacuna between history and myth that keep one in perpetual wonder.”
Is Creatures in the Night the start of something new? A ghostly fairy tale? A budding friendship? Or an unexpected twist to how the evening is starting to unfold …
The ZAK+FOX Showroom is hidden away on the top floor of a building on Park Avenue in New York City. This respite from the metropolis below is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
