Around the World on the Phileas Sofa
Given that it “recalls the upholstery of 1950s automobile seats, banquettes from the mythical Orient Express, the hushed surroundings of English gentlemen’s clubs, and the novels of Agatha Christie and Jules Verne,” Philippe Nigro’s Phileas sofa (for Ligne Roset) most likely references the hero of Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days—Phileas Fogg, an intrepid explorer who traveled the globe in high style.
2020’s Phileas is gorgeous and glamorous, yet for all that it’s aptly restrained and contemporary too.
The sofa’s salient quality is the striking vertical quilting that sets off the seating into comfy compartments of plush polyester.
And with base choices in satin black epoxy, satin bronze lacquered steel, or solid walnut, all those soft surroundings are aptly and handsomely supported—as is the sitter.
Phileas is available as a full-sized sofa, medium sofa, armchair, and ottoman. Upholstery options include leather, velvet, microfiber, and wool. Read more at Ligne Roset.
