Designer Profile: Nika Zupanc
Product and interior designer Nika Zupanc creates playful visions in the form of furniture, lighting, and installations. Known for infusing cinematic splendor into everyday forms, Zupanc is all about the intersection of luxury and whimsy.
In 2008, Zupanc created a lovely little lamp called Lolita. Part hat, part gumdrop, and all feminine, Lolita quickly became a favorite in the Moooi universe.
Zupanc collaborated with Moooi again to produce the Golden Chair, available in black and gold, in leather or gloss. While the leather versions recall 1950s car styling, it’s the golden chrome version that’s so very Hollywood.
An instant icon, Black Cherry Lamp continued Zupanc’s signature mix of grandiose glam and punky pop culture. Presenting the luscious fruit in glossy black transformed the object into something foreign, forcing viewers to reconsider its splendid shape with its wondrous stem and globose berry.
Another great piece, Stay Dining Chair for Sé is a classic dining chair with shapely lines and beautiful ovals. The integrated golden arms give the chair a lively expression.
Zupanc accessories are equal parts play and glam. Infinity Clock for Bosa takes the object’s purposeful hands and turns them into a design detail in the form of loops. The clock also “stands” on rocking-horse feet. Metaphorically, all these changes to the traditional clock make us question the very notion of time.
Adore Sofa takes Zupanc’s signature style to the drawing room. The sofa is infused with sweetness. Pillowy curves and a dainty frame make it look like a piece of candy.
In the designs of Nika Zupanc, familiar forms and everyday objects take on an air of exotic luxury and femme fatale allure–but always with a wink. Visit Nika Zupanc for more information.
