Conversation Piece: Hayon x Nani Rug for Nani Marquina
If it’s envisioned by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon, then it’s probably a conversation piece. The Hayon x Nani Rug for Nani Marquina beautifully encapsulates Hayon’s iconography of forms.
Tropical and serpentine, wild and whimsical, Marvel and Miro, Hayon’s visual vocabulary often includes anthropomorphic creatures from another world. All of these humorous creations get depicted on hand-tufted wool rugs in the Hayon x Nani Rug Collection.
On the floor, Hayon’s sketches deliver a world of wonders—“a chaotic tangle of colours and shapes,” as Nani Marquina puts it. And while we cover a lot of furniture in our Conversation Piece series, we don’t often focus on what’s underfoot. But in the Hayon universe, an area rug might as well be the only object in the room.
The collection includes a square model specifically designed as wall art. It’s a twenty-first-century tapestry that’s sure to boggle the minds of future historians, humans, and humanoids alike.
