Fliegenbein SL Standing Lamp by Garth Roberts for Kalmar Werkstätten
Creative director of Kalmar Werkstätten Garth Roberts has added to the family of ‘Fliegenbein’ lamps with a new Standing Lamp design.
Joining the existing table and floor lamp designs, the shorter Fliegenbein SL Standing Lamp features an elongated shade.
Two delicately bent steel tubes merge into a single shaft topped by a dramatically elongated shade with splayed legs peeking out from underneath. Made from hand-pleated silk, the elongated shade diffuses the light into a soft, uniform glow, while the cast and polished tubular steel frame is available in light and dark gray or brown matte lacquers.
Perfect for use next to an armchair or lounge, the Fliegenbein family is adapted from a 1957 design by Julius T. Kalmar.

About the manufacturer: Kalmar Werkstätten celebrates the historic lighting manufacture Kalmar. Since the project's launch in 2009, Kalmar Werkstätten has issued designs based on drawings found in the Kalmar archives and selected for today's residential and commercial interiors. Specifically, these lamps, chandeliers, and sconces spotlight the Secession and Wiener Werkstätten movements in which the company was intimately involved, thanks to the working relationships second-generation owner Julius Theodor Kalmar established with the great talents including Josef Hoffmann and Adolf Loos. They rediscover Austrian modernism's directness of form, craftsmanship, and dedication to time-honored materials to become contemporary heirlooms in their own right.
