Parison pendant by Nat Cheshire for Resident

The Parison is a glass pendant, mouth blown from a mixture of black and clear glass.

The undulating surface of the Parison pendant’s mouth blown glass shade is a celebration of flaws and imperfections.

Designed by architect Matt Cheshire and made in New Zealand, the

Parison’s production process combines traditional craft with digital innovation.

The glassblower dips the blowpipe into molten black glass and then blows the glass into a two-part, routed cherry wood mold that has been carefully digitally designed. Layers of glass are built up over four or five minutes before the mold is opened up to reveal the finished shade.

It’s surface is a fluid gradient from opaque to transparent and, due to its handmade production, each one is unique. Housed in the neck of the pendant, a high quality LED lamp creates a soft warm glowing fixture.
