The Watermark Collection by Deborah Osburn for Tilevera

Fitting perfectly with our recent ‘Blurred Lines‘ surfaces trend round up, the new painterly Watermark Tile Collection designed by Deborah Osburn for Tilevera is inspired by Japanese textile dying techniques.

Deborah Osburn’s Watermark Tile Collection for Tilevera consists of beautiful hand painted indigo and gold verdigris designs.

Introduced by online tile store cl©, this new collection of hand crafted porcelain tiles is made using traditional indigo dye as well as gold verdigris, which morphs into a striking turquoise hue as the dye travels up the tile.

The process begins with hand cut, slow-fired and unglazed porcelain tiles, each of which will absorb the pigments differently, making each tile completely unique.

While the graduated color on the dip tiles are created by dipping the tiles into the pigment, the stroke, wash and stain tiles are brushed on with an Asian paintbrush.

"The process is very Japanesque,” says Osburn of her collection. “Several pools of indigo dye are created and each and every tile is hand dipped into one of the indigo pools. Then the tiles are allowed to sit in the dye for several days to absorb varying gradations of the indigo. Every tile takes on its own personality absorbing the dye in its own individual way. Some are stubborn and won’t absorb much at all. Others are wildly flamboyant drawing up a lot of the indigo into thin shades of the dye and then others are moderate, soaking up line after line of color creating multiple horizons.”

The tiles are available in 3″ x 6″, 4″ x 8″, and 6″ x 12″ and can be installed indoors or out, on walls and floors.
