The Heel Chair by Nendo for Moroso
I've never worn high heels, nor do I plan to. Nor-in defiance of fashion zeitgeist-do I recommend anyone do the same, such are the detrimental effects on feet, ankles, legs, and back. However, I do recognize the aesthetic appeal of, say, the Stiletto, which is why I admire Moroso's latest contribution, the Heel Chair.
The Innovative, Audacious Heel Chair by Nendo
Designed by Japanese studio Nendo, Heel turns several hundred years of chair design figuratively upside down and literally up the back, as Heel's striking innovation is an elegantly extended pair of rear legs.
Much in the matter of its namesake, Heel's posterior point of contact is not from the seat joint, but rather from two-thirds of the way up, joined to the seat back in a way that "suspends the seat in a newly defined space."
The chair evokes Stiletto heels in other ways too. Its minimalist design is slim and elegant, allowing users to embrace the negative space much in the way that a high heel shoe vanishes into the background, emphasizing instead the long, lovely lines of the female foot.
Moroso offers Heel in beechwod with a natural oiled finish or in five lacquer colors. It will soon be available in solid natural wood and two additional colors-off-white and light grey. The chair is extremely lightweight, making it stackable, portable, and easily stowed.
