Overstuffed Shapes: Hospitality Trend
Designers across the world are getting comfortable-with puffy cushions and rounded seats that can provide a landing pad for informal meetings or make a big statement about relaxation in hospitality and residential settings:
Party by Sancal: Sancal’s first endeavor with Barcelona-based designer Luis Eslava, Party is a modular seating collection that adjusts to suit casual meetings, family life, or relaxation for one. The 80 cm and 95 cm modules together with a 95 x 95 pouf are also available in a version called “modules with cusion”: one cushion within the structure and individual to toss on the floor or use in other informal ways. www.sancal.com
Catherine by Bernhardt Design: Designed by Paris-based No© Duchaufour-Lawrance, Catherine is a modern interpretation of European club chairs. Its maple frame is available in several wood finishes and the rounded back and seat cushions can be upholstered in custom textiles or in any fabric or leather from Bernhardt Textiles. www.bernhardtdesign.com
Calypso by Busnelli: Designed by Marco Boga’s Bstudio for Busnelli, Calypso’s informal shape is made with CFC-free, non-deformable polyurethane foam, and is available in one-, two-, and three-cushion sizes. Bolea by Leolux: Bolea by Ricardo Belli is the end result of an idea born during a design competition in which the challenge was to design a chair for sick children. One year after releasing the junior version, Leolux has unveiled a new adult-size low lounger in round (Ovo) and elongated (Lungo) versions. www.leolux.com
Chummy by Opinion Ciatti: A playful seating collection that includes a pouf, armchair, and two-seat sofa designed by Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman, Chummy’s internal structure is made with molded polyurethane, with upholstery in colored or concrete-printed stretch fabric or white synthetic fur. www.opinionciatti.com
