Although office spaces are opening up and workspaces are becoming more collaborative, there is still a need for a little personal space for concentration within crowded and busy offices. These desk designs provide workers with a little privacy and a stylish space to call their own.
Docklands by British designers PearsonLloyd for Austrian brand Bene is described as a ‘haven in the office’. The key component of the design is the the Dock-In Bay, which offers a temporary, alternative workplace for individual focused work.
Designed for Japanese brand Ichiro, a Japanese maker of decorative plywood, the Koloro workstation and stool by Torafu architects acts as a miniature office. Available in blue or yellow plywood, the desk can be tailored to suit your preferences with space for lighting and potted plants. In addition there is a built-in skylight and fold-down windows that double as shelves for displaying ornaments, hooks for bags, and a cord manager.
Hella Jongerius‘ Sphere Table for Vitra features a giant acrylic glass privacy bubble. Attached to the simple wooden desk, the opaque half-globe dampens noise, allows sunlight to filter through and blocks out visual distractions.
The misty blue panels of Design Academy Eindhoven graduate Thijmen van der Steen's Fading desk act as translucent dividers between working space and living space. The desk provides a sheltered space for concentration without closing the workspace off from its surroundings.
Although Industrial Facility‘s Locale Office Furniture System for Herman Miller promotes collaboration in the office, the designers also recognized the need for personal space, and so added brightly colored screens that wrap around the height adjustable desks.
