Axor Launches Axor WaterDream by Front and Nendo

German brand Axor is re-imagining the design of the bathroom. Two new creations, part of Axor’s ongoing WaterDream concept, envision the bathroom as a living space.

As part of its WaterDream concept, Axor presents two new collaborations with Swedish design trio Front and Japanese design studio Nendo.

Using an open process that is based on dialog, Swedish design trio Front and Japanese design studio Nendo were asked to re-think the shower and create a new archetype. Whereas Nendo draws inspiration from an emotional living space outside of the bathroom, Front’s design explores the technical origins of the water installation.

"We used our personal perception of the shower and showering to draw attention to the technology behind the wall, which is often concealed," explains Charlotte von der Lancken of Front, whose installation transforms the ordinarily hidden copper pipes, valves, couplings, and funnels into an elegant freestanding shower design.

Meanwhile, Nendo presents a hybrid shower and lamp design that provides a an enhanced sensuous dimension to the shower experience. The striking wire frame shower head doubles as an elegant lampshade with an exposed lightbulb encased within. Nendo presented both a floor standing and pendant version.

"The natural coming- together of light and water is freed from spatial constraints: what traditionally took place in separate rooms - reading under a lamp in the living room, taking a shower in the bathroom - can now be experienced free from spatial allocations or confinements," commented Philippe Grohe, Head of the Axor brand.
