Bolon set to launch the Wing Tile and The Story of Bolon during Milan Design Week
To celebrate their 10th anniversary at the head of their family business, sisters Annica and Marie Eklund, who head up flooring brand Bolon, are releasing an exclusive book and a new shape of Bolon studio tile.
Swedish flooring brand Bolon will unveil a new book and new shape of flooring tile at next month’s edition of the Salone del Mobile during Milan Design Week.
Although founded in 1949, 2013 marks the sister’s 10th year anniversary since they took over Bolon and transformed it from a traditional weaving mill into a global design brand. Annica and Marie Eklund are the third generation to run the family-owned company, which is headquartered in Ulricehamn, Sweden.
The new Bolon Studio tile, called ‘Wing’ promises to combine different colors and previous Bolon tile designs into a new graphic shape making it possible to create a whole spectra of different designs.
The new book, entitled ‘The Story of Bolon’ contains photographs by Tobias Regell and interviews by journalist Simon Mills with some of the world’s foremost creators, designers and architects; from Rosita Missoni, Jean Nouvel and Giulio Cappellini to Thomas Sandell and Gert WingÃ¥rdh.

About the Manufacturer: Bolon is a third-generation manufacturer of fine textiles and woven flooring. True to the company's antecedents-back in 1949, founder Nils-Erik Eklund employed textile waste from a neighbouring factory to create woven rag rugs-the company incorporates innovations in materials to enhance sustainability and increase aesthetic appeal. In fact, the company name is a hybrid of the Swedish words for cotton and nylon. This pursuit of innovation extends to Bolon's design and style as the company has embraced an aesthetic creativity that has made a Bolon floor a signature item-"floors that are a palette of innovative opportunities rather than merely a passive surface beneath our feet."
