Sock lights by Jay Watson
For his new range of pendant lights, British desingner Jay Watson looked no further than his own sock drawer for inspiration. Launched at Tent London 2012 the Sock Lights are created from discarded socks that have been treated with eco resin derived from sunflowers.
The humble sock is transformed into a elegant textile shade that emits an ethereal glow
Jay’s inspiration sprung from a fascination for the soft glow created from lighting through textile and the variation and intricacy of the diffusely illuminated weave patterns. Originally sourced from the back of Jay’s own wardrobe, the (freshly laundered!) socks can be supplied by customers wishing for a completely bespoke design.
As well as recycled socks, the lights also feature recycled sockets and new ultra energy-saving high-brightness LED light sources that use cutting-edge remote phosphor technology. The sock pendant lights are available in two sizes – Regular (100mmØ x 350mm long) and Large (100mmØ x 450mm long). 90+ CRI, and in a colour temperature to suit specific needs. Made to order, prices from £54/$87 per light.
