Oborain, the first modern pre-fab outdoor shower
For those of us lucky enough to have a beach house or a vacation rental, the Oborain outdoor shower is a real summertime treat. Launched in June this year, Oborain is the first modern pre-fab outdoor shower that can be installed as a permanent or temporary structure.
Oborain is a panelized shower that can be assembled in 30 minutes on any level clearing, plumbed with garden hoses, and then brought in for the winter.
The materials used to make Oborain were chosen for their beauty, durability, sustainability, and ease of maintenance: a stainless steel frame, hardwood decking, mahogany wall panels, and a sleek modern fixture.
The hardwood deck is made from 5/4″ Cumaru, a sustainably harvested Brazilian hardwood. The wood panels are made from Dark Red Meranti, a hardwood from Malaysia, which resists weathering and checking (splitting) and is 100% certified by the Malaysian Timber Council to meet sustainability standards.
The fixture is an Axor Citterio 3-jet showerhead with Full, Soft Aerated and Pulsating Massage spray modes Thermostatic temperature control, On/ off ceramic diverter & shut off valve
Each shower is built by hand in Western Massachusetts. Prices range from $4,300 for a single cubicle without doors, to $12,000 for the trio version.

About the manufacturer: Oborain was set up by Massachusetts-based Jim Lobley and Kirsten Oxboel. Lobley came up with the concept for a temporary outdoor shower in 2011 at his home in the woods in Western Massachusetts. He sketched the idea on the back of a napkin for Oxboel, and together they launched the Oborain outdoor shower range in summer 2012 at the at the Dwell on Design international trade show in Los Angeles.
