Who could possibly know what to expect from the propitious collaboration between manufacturer DuPont Corian, French design group Moustache, and designer Inga Sempé? I’m picturing some inconceivably futuresque kitchen countertop with a curious resemblance to the lengthily waxed facial adornment of Salvador Dalí. Alas, such a concoction would likely fail to support the most mundane of kitchen tasks, so we’ll have to content ourselves for the time being with Sempé’s small shelf, mirror, bowl, and vase—complete with the very elegant installation instructions, “to be screwed to the wall.”

Inga Sempé’s Bathroom Furniture for Corian Proposes Elegant New Shapes in a Versatile Material
Sempé’s quartet of clever bathroom accessories is one among four examples of DuPont Corian’s determination to expand the vision of what can be done with this most functional and durable material. The collaboration between Corian, French design firm Moustache, and designers Sempé, Ionna Vautrin, François Azambourg, Sébastien Cordoléani and Benjamin Graindorge has given us a sneak peek of the future of this beautifully translucent and transparently versatile material.
Though yet somewhat shrouded in secrecy, the full splendor of each of these pieces will soon shine forth (this week, in fact, at Salone) as Moustache reveals the new incarnations of Corian, “enthusiastically and rigorously pieced together over the past year through constant elaboration and exchange of ideas.”
While it’s true that information on Sempé’s contribution to the theme has been limited at best, the one sneak peek making the rounds shows a sturdy assemblage of bathroom adornments, each with an enhanced earthy appeal. The four pieces have a geometric quality about them that evokes Cubism, yet they exude a simplistic functionality. For what better way to keep permanent tabs on the requisite collection of bathroom accoutrements than an immovable bowl, shelf, and mirror, easy to install and even easier to look at?
About the Manufacturer: DuPont Corian is one of the most versatile, adaptable, and attractive materials on the market today. While the material is perhaps best known for its use in colorful, aesthetically appealing countertops, the possible applications are just about endless. Corian has recently enjoyed an ascendance in bathroom sinks and vanities, and—thanks to the innovative collaboration between Corian and Moustache at this year’s Salone—in bathroom furniture/accessories and lamps as well.
