Plywood Layers with Varied Colors Forms the Modern Knopp Light by Ania Pauser for Klong.
Based in Stockholm, Sweden, designer Ania Pauser uses her eye for delicate artistry to create tables and seating, lighting, room dividers, illustrations and numerous other projects. The Knopp pendant lamp is made for the Klong, the Swedish furniture manufacturer, using twelve separate petals. Fastened to one another and the birch armature using brass fixtures, the rounded shape is obtained with the spreading of petals that open up like a beach ball.
The Knopp lamp’s flexible petals can come in different interior petal colors that are generally light and pastel-driven. It seems as though all of them shifted right into place for the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair 2012, and are continuing to generate a buzz around their fan-out-fold-down look. Getting its name from a flower that is about to bloom (also known as a flower bud), the fixtures come in a small (flower bud) size that measures nice and big 18″ x 14″ or a large (flower bud) size that measures an even more substantial 22″ x 20.5″.
Although the sound of a plywood flower bud seems backwards, the Knopp brings out the softer side with the design expertise of Ania Pauser and Klong.
