Hot As Fire: Northstar Wall Oven by Elmira Stove Works
Not that I’m an expert in Feng Shui, because I’m not, but I heard once that red is a good color to have in the kitchen—I believe it had something to do with good fortune (the Feng Shui aficionado might have mentioned something about a money corner). Regardless of its magical powers, red is a powerful color in the kitchen, given its associations with heat, energy, and power, all adjectives that also describe good cooking.

1950s Retro Style for Modern Kitchens
Thankfully, red appliances are not hard to find. Elmira Stove Works, for example, offers its historical appliances—modeled after 1850s and 1950s styles—in Candy Apple. One of the newest offerings in their Northstar collection, which reinterprets mid-century appliances, is the Northstar Wall Oven. This hot number is a “perfect fit for retro, contemporary or modern kitchens.”
While Northstar formerly included retro refrigerators, ranges, and range hoods, the collection now also includes this remarkable wall oven, which should give customers “a lot more flexibility in terms of how they cook with our appliances and how they fit our retro styling into the specific layout of their kitchen,” explains Brian Hendrick, Vice-President of Elmira Stove Works. The Northstar Wall Oven has 4.1 cubic feet of capacity, electric self-cleaning, and convection; plus, you can install it in wall cabinets or kitchen islands.
Should you want a different color, the Northstar Wall Oven is also available in Elmira’s eight other standard colors: White, Bisque, Textured Black, Quicksilver, Robin’s Egg Blue, Flamingo Pink, Mint Green, and Buttercup Yellow. Any of the colors looks great with Northstar’s chrome trimmings—as bright, sleek, and streamlined as classic cars from the same time period such as the Chevrolet Skyline and the Dodge Diplomat.
About the Manufacturer: Elmira Stove Works, based in Ontario, began three generations ago when a hardware store supplied woodburning cookstove parts to local Mennonites. Since then, Elmira Stove Works has produced cookstoves using designs from the 1800s. In the 1980s, the company introduced gas and electric models. They now also offer retro 1950s appliances, including refrigerators, stoves, wall stoves, and microwaves. Elmira Stove Works hopes their products “will bring back warm memories and begin creating new ones for you and your family.”
