Like Coral Under the Sea, the Organic Form of the Black Fringed Porcelain Luminary is Designed by Andrew DeWitt.
Made by hand, the high-fired translucent porcelain is made with decorative lines that spin themselves up, down, and around the rounded sides of this gorgeous work of art. In a stunning display of light cast out and attention drawn in, the stunning, carved shade uses holes as an outlet for its brilliant center.
Measuring approximately 10″ high, 6″ wide and with a 1/2″ variance, the surface-savvy Black Fringed Porcelain Luminary is created by San Francisco, CA-based artist, Andrew DeWitt. The Bespoke Global site says of DeWitt’s work, “function plays an essential part to the work’s meaning – through the pieces utility, formal themes are transformed and in turn transform their everyday purpose through shape and design.” His attention to a career-long exploration linking nature and interiors create a gorgeous, under-the-sea impression.
With each unique piece, DeWitt brings out the raw feel of porcelain and stoneware to create elegant pieces of art the illuminate while drawing us into their sculptural design.
About the Designer: Andrew DeWitt uses porcelain and stoneware together to design objects that appear natural, as if they were stone, wood, water or flesh. His designs are handmade, one of a kind, and made for the refined client. As Bespoke Global writes of his work, “(DeWitt’s) deeper exploration of the interrelations of surface to form, mutation to symmetry, growth to decay, and representation to abstraction results in unique objects with organic roots.”
