For Your Health: Sky Stool by Sittris

It seems that sometimes one of the worst places sick people can end up is in a hospital. The reason is simple: approximately two million people every year acquire an infection during a hospital stay (in the United States). This sobering fact led to the creation of Sittris, “a company dedicated to seating specifically designed for health care situations.” Sittris products use innovative germ-resistant materials, including the company’s own Siliform™. The promise of Sittris is to manufacture “clean seating that stays clean,” so you can rest easy if you happen to end up in a hospital.

One of their seating options is the Sky Stool, designed for use in clinics and laboratories. The family of stools offers three heights—low (desk), counter, and bar—each of which is adjustable. Sky features a 4-leg fixed base or 5-leg base on casters with an optional foot ring. The stool’s 16” round seat is generous, and those health professionals needing extra support can get the Sky Stool with a T-shaped back. Sittris offers PVC-free synthetic leathers and technical textiles for seat and back upholstery.

Best of all, you can add the Sittris patented Siliform silicone covers to Sky Stool, which will help control infection. In case that’s not enough protection for the germaphobe, the stool comes with an optional foot-controlled height activator, so doctors and nurses can make hands-free adjustments (especially helpful if they have already scrubbed in).

About the Manufacturer: Sittris designs and manufactures seating for the healthcare market. Their products provide solutions for patients, visitors, and staff, as well as for the particular needs of bariatric patients. The company was launched in 2006 by Keilhauer, though it is a completely separate, autonomous venture. Above all else, Sittris aims to minimize the spread of infection by making “clean seating that stays clean.”
