Feltri Chair by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina
Some of us are freaks for cars, for buying new shoes, or for the newest video games. When a design of something completely unrelated to our favorite things in the world reminds of them, we could come up with a million ways to explain their similarities. I do this often with dogs, and today, I’ve found my version of a gorgeous little Papillon in the Feltri chair by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina.
Feltri Chair. Designed by Gaetano Pesce. Manufactured by Cassina.
The Feltri Chair by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina comes in a High or Low Armchair.
Gaetano Pesce used the unusual material of thick wool felt to create the high and low armchairs for Cassina that he titled Feltri in 1986. A year or so later, the Feltri chairs went into production and have been a staple in the line-up ever since. To help the felt stay strong, the lower part of the chair’s felt is impregnated with a thermosetting resin to guarantee stiffness and resistance. The seat itself uses a supporting frame with hemp strings to trim the soft upper edge, and is completed with a quilted fabric in various colors and sewn together with polyester padding.
The back is made from one piece of felt that, as Pesce’s website describes, “stands up for a more majestic, wing chair-like profile; it can also be turned down, like a coat collar, to provide a lower profile and arms.” The comfortable material and slouchy, but modern look is matched only by the reputation of Cassina backing up the design. Known for their top-quality production and recognizable designs by the best designers, the Feltri is no exception.
With contrast stitching and colorful felt fabric to cushion your seated landing, the Feltri chair by Gaetano Pesce and Cassina stands as a gorgeous piece whose contemporary, playful profile revives those of us who are also freaks for fine furnishings.
