Include a simple platform bed into your sleeping quarters and you may find that box springs are merely tradition. In many places around the world, box springs under a mattress makes little sense when you have a mattress already. No huge boxspring or shin-cracking iron bed frame necessary, plenty of modern bed fans everywhere have turned to the beauty and simple design of platform beds to do the trick. In this week’s round-up of minimalist platform beds, we take a look at the upholstered, the leather, the wood, and even the concrete best of the nightly nest.

Platform Beds Get Rid of Box Spring Hoopla and Take Modern, Minimalist Design to the Stage

3. Concrete

With concrete in the bedroom, don’t think dank cellar – think warm and inviting. Eric Weil uses “troweled concrete” in his simple rendition of a platform bed that rests atop brushed metal, wood, or plexi legs. With or without an extension, the Designlush bed wows with custom sizes available.

4. Astrid

Reminiscent of trademark front pearly whites – like those of Lauren Hutton – Copeland describes their solid cherry hardwood frame as “producing dramatic cantilevers, the Astrid Bedroom is an engineering feat that defies expectations and inspires a sense of possibility.” The platform bed and collection of furnishings that go along with it come in four different finishes with a variety of knob or pull options.

5. Wynd

The Wynd platform bed is made out of a natural veneer in a cherry finish and comes attached to a set of nightstands with lights fixed overhead.
