One man’s trash is another man’s treasure — or perhaps 50 broken computers can be transformed into another man’s light fixture. Electronic waste is an increasingly challenging waste product as more and more of us use computers and alas, break them. Because of their technical nature, they have to be dismantled before being recycled, which leads to added expense and reluctance by manufacturers and users. The issue reminds me of the issue surrounding recycling building demolition materials: its time consuming, painstaking, and expensive which makes it less likely to happen.

Reclaimed Computer Fans Create a Cool Chandelier

Just recently on 3rings we featured a chandelier made from recycled Ink Cartridges by LowellAndLouise, which tackles another common office waste issue. The cartridges are artfully pulled apart and reconnected to create a luminous, techy, and ec-friendly light fixture. Office products seem to spur lighting designs, like the Recycled Bic Pen Chandelier by enPieza. But who uses pens these days anyway, lets talk about the computer.

The E-Fan Chandelier by DeridderDesignstudio uses reclaimed computer fans and connects them together so they both light, and delicately cool your space. The look of the fixture isn’t for everyone, but I imagine the sound of the fans would do a lot for a computer geek on a hot summer night. DeridderDesignstudio focuses on the display and reuse of existing consumer products.
