Grown restless for a bit more green in your day? Fancying a might more foliage in your environs? If you’ve a taste of the winter blahs, perennial designer Jean-Marie Massaud may have just what you need. In a refreshing departure from the usual use of the word these days, the “Green” in his Green Islands for Offecct has no pretensions about saving the world, but it may save some part of a day you had rued. That’s because it guarantees an up-close-and-personal exposure to an ornamental growing thing—namely, whatever shrub, or flower, or meticulously pruned bonsai plant you feel disposed to introduce into the ottoman’s soil-filled hole.

Indoors Meets Out in an Integrated Planter

If that last sentence left you reeling, or at the least doing a quick double-take, know that Massaud’s latest is essentially an ottoman (choose from round or square) built around a clean, level, and seamless aperture. The planter takes up but a mere handful of square inches of the ottoman’s usable space, and it’s tastefully integrated into the rigid foam pieces courtesy of a simple chrome frame that’s countersunk to finish even with the ottoman’s surface.

Judging from manufacturer Offect’s press pics, they intend either a smallish tree or the bushy fronds of a lush fern to take up residence, but of course you may make of Green Islands whatever you wish. Whether that desire takes form as a blush of pink poppies, a rush of red roses, or the heavenly hues of a hemlock is entirely up to you. No matter the details of the personalized landscape you choose to install, Massaud’s integrated greenery is sure to remain a tranquil island of repose.
