Young professionals often joke about having cardboard boxes to sit on because they can’t afford furniture. Designers and users alike have created seating made from reclaimed carpet squares to stolen milk crates to cardboard. Designer Giles Miller and architect Toby Horrocks have both taken cardboard to a new level with their recyclable creations. Nicolas Le Moigne and Eternit went straight for the trash bin when developing the design for the Trash Cube. Pulp Furniture by Odelia and Dan takes its inspiration from the structural integrity and recycled quality of recycled paper packaging.

New Furniture From Recycled Paper Packaging Components by Odelia and Dan

We’ve seen recycled paper seating before on 3rings. The Poesis Pulp Chair is a solid brick of a chair made from densely packed recycled paper that is then sanded to create a velvety finish. Pulp Furniture by Odelia and Dan emphasizes a different quality of recycled paper, resulting in what looks more like over-sized electronics packaging than furniture. The pieces durability is derived from the concept that a folded plane is stronger than a flat one. This can be seen in corrugated metal and accordion screens as an example. Odelia and Dan show off the strength of their paper stools and table by supporting a heavy glass table top and well as what appears to be Odelia standing on a stool. The Pulp Furniture collection includes two stools, a table, and wall clock. The table has a fun raised center piece that exhibits the paper form and designates a place for objects such as fruit. The furniture is biodegradable, fully recyclable, and is shipped neatly in one container.
