Bamboo Sink Collection by Stone Forest
Stone Forest is the creator of some of the most beautiful “nature inspired” sinks out there. Not unlike the way water naturally pools within indentations on a rock, Stone Forest’s sinks are at harmony with the water within them. Instead of forcibly containing the water, these sinks instead provide water with an intuitive place to rest. Materials such as stone, copper, bronze and bamboo put traditional white porcelain to shame when given the goal of designing a bathroom retreat inspired by nature.

Stone Forest has a series of natural stone sinks that range from rustic rocks with a carved smooth basin through highly polished onyx that would be appropriate for King Louis XIV. While these sinks are unique and beautiful, there is a debate on the sustainability of natural stone. Natural stone is an inert material, meaning it does not off-gas and create a toxic environment, but the harvesting of natural stone takes a lot of energy and leaves scars on the earth. Stone Forest also offers a line of copper and bronze sinks which are made from 100% recycled materials. Copper and bronze are pushed to their design extremes with the Bronze Chalice and the Papillon sinks.

The material explorations of Stone Forest make them an unusual bathroom fixture company, but the designs that stand out most from a sustainability standpoint are the bamboo sinks. A sink made from wood should be intuitive given the history of boats, dishes, houses, and even shoes made from wood. Stone Forest’s Bamboo Sinks are durable, renewable and water resistant. Each sink is made from the hard exterior of the stalk which has had the soft interior removed and has been laminated to form a smooth plank. The bamboo sinks have a carved zen-like quality that is perfect for a spa setting.
