Sophie de Vocht’s Loop Chair for Casmania
Who doesn’t love sitting or laying down on a soft rug? It’s just that the pillow doesn’t protect our elbows from getting stiff, and our stomachs and back regions can only lay down arched up for so long. Dutch design student, Sophie de Vocht, must have considered a few of the lackluster results of sitting on the floor while at the same time admiring the benefits of being floored.
The Loop Chair by Sophie de Vocht will be available in 2011 from Casmania.
In her new Loop Chair, that will hit the Italian company website of Casmania for purchase in 2011, it is the first combination rug-lounge chair we’ve ever seen. Just by looking at the thick loops of yarn carpeting, is the world’s first ever lounge chair and a rug hybrid that we’ve ever seen. Resembling a mermaid or soft flipper in a way, the Loop Chair combines the back support of a normal chair with the laid out option right at your fingertips, and I mean literally. According to many critics, it is likely one of the world’s coziest lounge chairs based on its material usage and restful position. Made from 1,000 feet of yarn pulled through a tough metal wire mesh, the Loop Chair’s seat cover is created from the designer’s very own hands. The technique is called “hand-tufting” and it creates a thick, comfortable cushion from which the carpet extends out as a long and fluffed yarn leg rest.
Whether you choose to watch a movie on the floor or line the perimeter of a room in the chairs for an interesting, sort of communal effect, the Loop Chair can be purposed and re-purposed as easily as it is to squat down into its soft threads.
