At AD Home Design Show: Allmilmo Unveils “The Hidden Kitchen”
A hidden kitchen seems like a rather vague concept, but luxury kitchen and bath cabinetry manufacturer Allmilmo has made it a reality. Exploring the philosophies of concealment and contiguity in design and living, Allmilmo will be unveiling its new kitchen at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show beginning this Thursday: book-matched and veneered teak wood with contoured black lacquer finishes create a seamless wood surface that literally hides kitchen cabinets and appliances by means of a closing mechanism built on a curved (retractable) track.

“With the customer’s lifestyle more important than ever, Allmilmo created this kitchen for the social and style-conscience cook, using raw wood, movement, flexibility and playful elements while keeping in mind aesthetic and functionality,” said Lothar C. Birkenfeld, President and CEO of Allmilmo U.S. The Hidden Kitchen is part of Allmilmo’s “Design Art” line. In concept, it resembles Boffi’s On/Off Kitchen designed by Alberto Colonello. In functionality, the designs are a bit different. Boffi’s version features “doors” which unfold in a variety of directions whereas Allmilmo’s design consists of vertical, sliding panels; Boffi’s aesthetic is decidedly contemporary while Allmilmo’s incorporates the warmth of wood. Depending on your aesthetic preferences, you’re likely to sway toward one design or the other.
The AD Home Design Show takes place at Piers 92/94 located at 55th Street and The West Side Highway in New York. Be sure to visit Allmilmo at Booth 601.
