Not a Cookie-Cutter Carpet: Art Collection by Vorwerk

Who says businesses have to be understated? Workers no longer have to be bored by their surroundings. More and more companies know that creative spaces inspire creative work. German carpet manufacturer Vorwerk offers its Art Collection of carpets intended for the business market, with carpets designed by famous artists, architects, and designers. From the abstract to the expressionistic to the representational, the patterns in Vorwerk’s Art Collection add splashes of color and lots of style to the office or corporation.

Carpet Patterns Envisioned by Artists and Architects

From the architectural firm known as Coop Himmelb(l)au, which was founded in Vienna by Wolf D. Prix and Helmut Swiczinsky in 1968, comes a carpet that “reflects a respective city’s suspense, variety, vivacity and complexity in a single building as art of the future.” An expressionistic design of linear forms that resemble I beams or trusses, the Coop Himmelb(l)au Art Collection carpet is dynamic—the eye will follow any of the lines and lend the floor a sense of motion.

Famed painter David Hockney lends his bright cool colors to an abstract design resembling water. Like his representations of swimming pools in Los Angeles, Hockney’s carpet depicts the shimmer of waves and the ripples of water. Another abstract design comes from world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, whose carpet for Vorwerk seems to represent the meeting of the natural and constructed worlds. In shades of gray with touches of red and turquoise, the Zaha Hadid carpet juxtaposes hard lines with undulating ridges that resemble layers of sedimentary rock.

For a bright carpet, nothing trumps the design by artist Jeff Koons. Pink, purple, blue, green, and yellow flower shapes dance on a background of bubble gum pink—a pattern that “morphs between kitsch and art due to the ironic impact they generate.” I can’t help but think of Miami offices as the ideal place to display Art Collection Jeff Koons, especially firms with headquarters in Brickell Avenue highrises.

About the Manufacturer: Vorwerk has been manufacturing carpets since 1883. The German company believes that carpets are “possibilities for floor architecture.” With collections designed for various applications—hotel, office, business, and residential—Vorwerk offers a wide array of styles, including variable tile collections and completely recyclable products.
